Call for entries - Women Artists

Bodies by Design: Modification, Coercion, and Resistance
A Juried Exhibition of Art by Women
Sponsored by the Koehnline Museum of Art and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Oakton Community College.
Gendered embodiment has always been plastic: we adorn ourselves with piercings and tattoos; bind, confine,
and refine our contours; and learn to move in and out of step with societal expectations. Today, consumer society
places unprecedented pressure on women and men to conform, while the proliferation of subcultures allows for
ever more outrageous inventions and expressions. How do we survive and thrive in these extraordinary times?
Where: Koehnline Museum of Art, Oakton Community College, 1600 East Golf Road, Des Plaines, IL, 847-635-2633.
When: The exhibit runs October 3 - 25, 2013. A public reception will be held Thursday, October 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. Artists
are encouraged to attend this special event and discuss their work with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Who: Artists who self-identify as women are invited to submit one work for consideration. Submissions must be from
professional artists who have a record of professional exhibitions and are18 years of age or older.
Jury/Entry Fee: No entry fee.
Catalog: The College will produce an exhibition catalog.
Submission of Work: Each artist may submit one original work for consideration. Work should relate to the theme of
“bodies by design.”

MicrosoftWord document only (no PDFs or JPEGs) not exceeding 150 words (no résumés). The statement should refer to
the specific artwork submitted. Text will be edited for spelling, grammar, and space. Also complete the attached form and
return it with your CD. If you would like your CD returned, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

arrange a more convenient time and date.
